A Chinese painting and calligraphy show entitled "The greatest love knows no boundaries: Gratitude painting and calligraphy exhibition" opened at the China Cultural Center in Tokyo on Monday.

More than 100 works from more than 60 Japanese orphans and their relatives, mainly expressing gratitude toward adoptive parents and their love for Chinese culture, are on display.

The orphans, who lost their birth parents during the Japanese War of Aggression against China (1937-45), were brought up by Chinese families and began to go back to Japan after the normalization of Sino-Japanese diplomatic relations in 1972.

Kondo Shoichi, member of the House of Representatives of Japan, said the Japanese Invasion inflicted great suffering on the Asian people and that the orphans are witnesses to history. The exhibit should become an opportunity for Japan to foster mutual understanding with neighboring countries.
