Beijing Red Poppy Ladies’ Percussion founded in 2000, has participated in over 3000 performances around the world, with its own features by applying back-ground music and other art factors in percussion performance. Its performance in 2001 Chinese New Year Eve Gala Show in China Central Television (CCTV) attracted great attention from both in and out of China. Since then, Red Poppy has traveled all over the world. They performed in world famous theatre such as Sydney Opera House, Cairo Opera House, Kennedy Art Centre and Vienna Golden Hall. In 2004, Red Poppy was honored with the “World Peace Award” by World Culture Open (WCO) in South Korea. In 2008 Beijing Olympic Game, Red Poppy not only performed in the Closing Ceremony on the main stage, but also joined in the designing of 2008 Fou drums in the beginning of the Open Ceremony.
Its other main performance experiences including 120 musical shows - MULAN in Broadway and off-Broadway, USA (2012 and 2014), Show Time Festival of London Olympics (2012), Chinese New Year concert in Vienna (2012), percus-sion concert tour in Europe (2011, 2012), Closing Ceremony of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, etc.
About the play
Based on traditional Chinese drum music and other innovated method, which combines with Chinese music, drum music, kongfu, dance and variety of art forms, Red Poppy Ladies’ Percussion creates the musical play “Mulan”.
