The hour-long grand “Happy Chinese New Year” parade featured 10 floats and a huge Chinese Culture performance group, melding nearly 400 Eastern and Western performers.
Guo Zongguang, director of the China Cultural Center in New Zealand and Jill Day, deputy mayor of Wellington, were on the first float heading the parade, waving to the visitors to extend new year greetings.
The Chinese performance group was the highlight of the parade, adding a lot of color to the capital. The hour-long performance featured dragon and lion dances, costumes of Chinese ethnic groups, the qipao dress, tai chi, martial arts, Ansai waist drum dancing and the square dance.
