Song and Dance Ensemble of Yunnan Province |
The Ensemble has researched into the music and dances of over 20 ethnic groups and has created dozens of colorful programs with strong ethnic characteristics. Many of its programs have won national and international prizes. For instance, Footprints of Love, a large-scale song and dance drama, won the first prize at the 1stYunnan Ethnic Art Festival. Ashima, an ethnic dance drama, won the first prize at the National Dance Drama Contest and the grand prize of Wenhua Award issued the Ministry of Culture, Water, a solo dance, won the first prize at the National Dance Contest. Other dances such as Wooden Drum and Gourd, Playing, Light, A Young Man, 4-stringed Instrument and Maying Flower and Water-splashing Festival won the gold prizes at the Spring in April International Friendship Art Festival in DPR Korea in 1998. Its music works, such as Sani People Love the Red Sun, Happy Bawu, The Silver Belts of Aini Girls and Mountain gives Me a Good Voice, also won national prizes. Its well-known singer Wang Hong won the 1949-1989 Gold Disc Award. The young Tibetan singer Zongyong Zhuoma won the first prize of Gold Phoenix Award of the National Singing Contest.
The Ensemble has toured over 30 countries and regions including Myanmar, Thailand, Japan, DPR Korea, Canada, the U.S.A., France, Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Mexico as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan.
