Modern Drama Theater of Shandong Province

The Modern Drama Theater of Shandong Province was et up in August 1990; its predecessor form was the Modern Drama Troupe of Shandong Province founded in 1953.

The Theater has presented more than 100 outstanding ancient and modern, Chinese and foreign plays. The modern drama After Harvest presented in the 1960s created a furore and an adapted film was made to screen nationwide in 1964. After 1980, the Theater created and put on stage the plays Decisive Battle, Sinking and Rising, Sultan and Emperor, Destiny, Ordinary Citizen Confucius, Sentimental Affections, Yellow River Flows to the Sea, Beneath the Red and Green Light and A Remembrance in Winter. The Theater performed successively these plays in Beijing, too. Among them, the play Ordinary Citizen Confucius has won the excellent performance awarded by the Chinese Drama Studying Society and A Remembrance in Winter has won the Cao Yu Drama and Literature Prize. Artists of the Theater also participated in television and film acting, such as in the films The Pilgrimage to the West, The Water margin (All Are Brothers), The Dream of Red Mansions, Garlands at the Foot of High Mountains, Family Sentiments and The Great Decisive Battle.

The leading artists of the Theater are Zhai Jianping, Wang Yumei, Liu Qingyuan, Shen Yuanji, Xie Weicai, Kou Bin and Pan Jielian.
