Modern Drama Troupe of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region

The Modern Drama Troupe of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region was founded in 1958. In the 1950s and 1960s, its repertoire included A Generation of the Young, Pressganging, Guards Under the Neon Lamp, Comrade! You Go no the Wrong Way, Women Pilots, Fight in the Leopard Bay, Gold Beam and Jade Column, etc. Since 1984, the Troupe has become more market oriented and new plays have been created. They are Such Farmer, Woman Village Head. Wang Zhenju, Baby and Man, Weddings and Marriagings, and three plays adapted from primary and middle school textbooks. Among them, Woman Village Head which publicized the policy of family planning was praised by the Ministry of Culture as a model in the literary and art circles. The Troupe has won Wenhua Prize, the Prize of Chinese Culture of Population, Promoting Prize in Modern Drama and other awards from The Ministry of Culture and the Autonomous Region government.

The Troupe currently owns such leading artists as: Wang Zhihong, Yang Baofeng and Huang Jingyi.
