Modern Drama Troupe of PLA General Political Department

The Modern Drama Troupe of the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army was established in Dec. 1980. Its Predecessor, The Drama Group of the General Political Department Art Troupe under the people's Revolution Military Commission of the Central Government, was established in March 1951.

For these decades, the Troupe has produced some 210 modern dramas and one-act plays. Its representative works include The Train of a Long Journey, Break Through the Darkness Before Dawn, The Jinggang Mountain, Letter from the South, Story of Oil Fields, Go East, Hero of the Age, Combat in Northern Shaanxi, Time Flies, Atom and Love, Army Commander Zhude, Laughter in Garrison, Soldier rotate, The White Cloud Appears in the Blue Sky, Final War in Huaihai, China 1949, A Holy Fire in the Sky, Love of the Ice Mountain, Affection Between the Army and Civilians, Li Dazhao, The Most Dangerous Moment, A Man Relative in the Women Company, Men's Battle Array, A strong Air Flow, Baptism and etc.

High quality talents and performances have won more than 300 prizes and awards in National and Army-wide Art Competitions. For instance, in the First National Modern Drama Festival, The Trails of a Long Journey won the First Prize for scenarist, director, dance design, setting design and management, Break Through the Darkness Before Dawn won the first prize for director, setting design and stage management; 2^ndprize for scenarist and dance design. Letter from the South won the Literature creation Award issued by the General Political Department of the PLA. China, 1949 won the 5^thNational Good Script Award. Holy Fire the Sky won the First Wenhua Award issued by the Ministry of Culture, and the 5^thNational Good Script Awards. Love of the Ice Mountain, Li Dazhao, The Most Dangerous Moment and A Man Relative in the Wonmen Company won the Wenhua Award for New Program respectively; short stories the Picket, All are Busy and Hitting the Mark by a fluke are also winners of the Wenhua Award for New program. TV play Two Girls vs. Two Soldiers and Tonight, Mother Goes for a Voyage won the National Feitian Award, the Gold Eagle Award and the All Army Gold Star Award for TV Programs. 25 artists from the Troupe were awarded the special Government Allowance issued by the State Council. Major artists of the Troupe include scenarist Chen Qitong, Fu Duo, Suo Yunping, Ma Rong, Zheng Zhenhua, Liu Xing, Wang Chaozhu, Yan Yan and Wang Hailing; directors Ding Li, Li Yinpu, Lu Wei, Wang Yinshen, Li Weixin, Qu Zhi, Wang Shouren, Wang Zunxi and Gong Xiaodong; actors and actresses Lan Ma, Li Renlin, Liang Yuru, Li Xuehong, Bai Huiwen, Jin Xin, Deng Jingsu, Huang Kai, Liu Yi ming, Zheng Zhongfeng, Guang Hui, Zhou Qi, Yang Jiao, Xing Zhixian, Zheng Chunpei, Zhong Shuyi, Lin Zhonghua, Bai Erchun, Chen Huiliang, Bang Yu, Li Baoyi, Lin Daxin, Zhang Mengdi, Qiao Chen, Wei Jian, Zhai Wanchen, Che Yuzheng, li Wenqi, Mu Huaihu, Wang Liyun, Guo Da, Ma Hongying, Mu Yun, and Cheng Xiaolin; stage designers Ji Xiaoqiu, Meng Song, Yu Guozhen, Zhao Hexian, Meng Xianchen, Chen Wenang, Yang Junfeng, Lin Bo, Huang Guanyu, Sun Dongfeng, Dong Ge and etc.
