Opera and Dance Drama Theater of Jilin Province

The Opera and Dance Drama Theater of Jilin Province, formerly known as the Jilin Song and Dance Ensemble, was founded in October 1954.

The Theater has produced many programs influential both at home and abroad. For example, its Silk Dance won a gold medal at a World Youth Festival. The dances I Love My Job, Festival Cymbals, Warriors' Happiness, Good Luck in Manchu Family, Hunter and Canary, Castanets Dance, Herding Deer, The Eight-Banner Women and Beautiful Girls have been awarded many prizes in the province and nationwide. The fairy dance drama Ginseng Girl won the 1st Wenhua Award for best new play and best performance. The dance drama Legend of the Tianchi Lake of Changbai Mountain, which was performed in collaboration with Antu County Cultural Troupe, won prizes for best playwright, composer and performance at a national dance drama festival. The solo dance Deep Love won the silver prize for performance at the first Lotus Cup National Dance Contest in 1998. Another dance Flower Tide won the best artwork award and the Changbai Mountain Art Award in the province. Among the songs created by the theater that have been popular for years are I Am A Soldier and An Old Driver. The chorus Changbai Mountain Chorus and Hong Kong 1997 won the best national art work and best performance awards. The Theater has toured DPR Korea, Canada, Russia, Thailand and ROK. Artists of the theater have cooperated with performers from the U.S.A., the Philippines, Japan, Russia, Thailand and RO Korea, making their contribution to the international cultural exchange.

Major artists of the Theater include first grade playwrights Chen Xianglan, Cui Shanyu, Yu Li, Qiao shutian and Wang Yinghui; first grade performers Cui Qin, Wang Xiaoyan, Hou Sen, Zhang Xing, Ji Bailing, Jiang Xiaopo and Liu Chunmei; first grade musician Lu Meng and first grade composer Cui Yiguang.
