Peking Opera Troupe of Anhui Province

The Peking Opera Troupe of Anhui Province was founded in 1960. The three newly-created Peking operas "Novice," Painted Skin and "Qi Jiang Sends Away Her Husband were staged at the First Anhui Drama Gala Performance and won about 20 awards including the Best performance, Best Directing, Best Actor, Best Music, Best stage Design. Other prize-winning Peking operas include "Death of General Yue Fei," "On the Dabie Mountain," "Being Drunken A Third Time," King Li Zicheng Meets General Zhang Xianzhong," "Strategist Zhuge Liang, "Recapturing Lost Territory," and modem Peking opera "Danfeng Mountain which has been included in the Outstanding Opera Script List of Anhui Province over the Past 30 Years. The Peking opera troupe has also staged such well-acclaimed new operas as "Empress Wu Zetian," Cai Wenji," " River God Gets Married," "Peaceful Reunification of the South and the North," Sun An Offers Advice to The Court," "Fifteen Strings of Coins," "Yang Libei," and modem Peking operas "The Long March," "Spring in the Ancient City," "The County Party Secretary and historical Peking opera "Master Peking Opera Actor Cheng Changgeng."

These operas have won a Special Award at the Fourth Anhui Provincial Opera Festival.

The Troupe has toured nationwide and in 1997 its Sweden tour with classic Peking operas "Sizhou City" "Picking Up the Jade Bracelet," Stopping the Horse at the Crossroads, Chasing General Han Xin," and "Borrowing Fan" was warmly welcomed.

The Troupe boasts such prominent artists as Wang Xichun, Xu Hongpei, Xue Haowei, Lu Dadong, Dong Cheng and Wan Huiming.
