Longju Opera Theater of Gansu Province

In February 1959, the Longju Opera Theater of Gansu Province grew out of the Daoqing Drama Troupe of Gansu Provincial Opera House. For 40 years since its establishment, the Theater has created, adapted, transformed and performed more than 200 operas such as Feng Luo Pond, False Son-in-law, Number One Scholar and the Beggar, Bosom Friend in Foreign Country, The Holy Land of Mogao (full-length historical story operas), the First Drum, Stone Dragon Bend, Disturbance by Yanhe River and Sleeping Bull Flies to the Moon (full length modern operas). In 1959, Feng Luo Pond won China Opera Musical Creation Gold Medal Prize for Newly-developed operas at the ceremony for the 10^thanniversary of the National Day. In 1985, Bosom Friend and Disturbance by Yanhe River respectively won 1^stand 2^ndgrade prizes at Gansu Province Opera Assemble Performance Conference. The First Drum took part in the 3^rdChina Art Festival, winning the 3^rdWenhua New Opera Prize and Wenhua Director Prize awarded by the Ministry of Culture, and winning the 1^stDunhuang Art Prize in Gansu Province. In 1997, Stone Dragon Bay won 10 prizes, the Out-standing Performance Prize, for instance, at Gansu Province Newly-created Opera Assembled Performance Conference. In 1986, Drum Beating for Peace won presentation prize and the Best Motion Prize at China Youth Drum-Beating Open Challenge in Beijing. In 1993, the House took part in the Art Festival of Silk Road in Hong Kong. In 1997, it visited and performed in Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar, gaining high praises everywhere. Foreign guests from more than 10 countries: the USA, Russia, Japan, Germany, the UK, and DPR Korea watched Longju opera in Lanzhou and highly praised Longju opera as an art of distinctive local characteristic and unique artistic style.

There are a lot of outstanding Long opera artists in the theater. Their representatives include Fanyu (director), Xie Chong, Chen Wennai (playwrights), Yi Yan, Di Zuoren (composers), Wang Tianyi, Wang Yongde (choreographers), Jin Lemin, Su qinlan, An Zhicheng, Wang Sumian, and etc. Guo Donglai and Li Zhujun won the 3^rdWenhua Director Prize. Young performer Lei Tongxia won the 16^thPlum Blossom Prize.
