Film editor Zhang Qi, who has been working with a slew of top directors, shares his passion for movies, Li Yingxue reports.
At a forum during the recent Shanghai International Film Festival, Jiang Wen, the director of Hidden Man, introduced Zhang Qi, his film editor, saying: "All my recent films' trailers are done by Zhang.
"He does not ask me anything or discuss things with me before he produces the trailers, but they are better than my films. I feel pressure when looking at his work."
Besides trailers, Zhang independently edited Hidden Man, his first whole-film edit for Jiang.
Four years ago, Zhang, now 30, joined the editing team for Jiang's Gone with the Bullets, and four years before that, when Zhang was a senior student at the Central Academy of Drama, he "sneaked" into Jiang's crew of Let the Bullets Fly, and asked Jiang to let him do the trailer.
