A group of award-winning Min Opera artists from Fujian Provincial Experimental Min Opera Troupe dazzled the audience at this year’s Copenhagen Opera Festival, a decade-old opera jamboree, with performances in Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen, on Aug 3, 2019.
Sponsored by the Fujian provincial department of culture and tourism, the performance was organized by the China Culture Center in Copenhagen, which made the troupe’s debut at the Danish annual festival as part of the cultural exchange between China and the North European country.
The opera troupe, headed by Zhou Hong, winner of the Plum Blossom Award, the highest theatrical award in China, performed a number of highlights from the Min Opera, also called Foochow opera, a major traditional opera form popular in Fujian province.
The 20-minute performance, packed with cleverly choreographed martial arts movements, blew the audience away and offered them a window into China’s fine culture.
