In this video Chu Yan examines fashion trends across the twentieth century, beginning with the qipao (or cheongsam, a close-fitting woman's dress with high neck and slit skirt). The 1930s was a golden age of the Chinese qipao, its style changing so that sleeves and skirt became shorter, and the waist became narrower, with arms and legs exposed. The video continues on until modern day, charting also the increasing popularity for Hanfu (汉服).

This video is fifth in the series called Chinese Clothing: Its Past and Present, presented by fashion designer and associate professor at Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology Chu Yan.
