Shanxi, a province west of the Taihang Mountains and east of the Yellow River, has played witness to over 5,000 years of civilization. Looking back in history, the answer to Chinese civilization can be found here.
Shanxi is also home to several UNESCO world heritage sites including the Wutai Mountain, one of the four Buddhist mountains in China, the Ancient City of Pingyao which was founded in the 14th century and the Yungang Grottoes, a treasure trove of Buddhist art.
