Han Xin was a military general who served Liu Bang (Emperor Gaozu of Han) during the Chu–Han Contention and contributed greatly to the founding of the Han Dynasty. |
Han Xin is best remembered as a brilliant military leader for the strategies and tactics he employed in warfare. In recognition of Han Xin's contributions, Liu Bang conferred the titles of "King of Qi" on him in 203 BC and "King of Chu" in the following year.
However, Liu Bang feared Han Xin's growing influence and gradually reduced his authority. In 196 BC, Han Xin was accused of participating in a rebellion and lured into a trap and executed on Empress Lv Zhi's orders.

In recognition of his contributions, Liu Bang granted Peng Yue the title of "King of Liang" after the founding of the Han Dynasty. After Chen Xi's rebellion was quelled, Gaozu heard rumours that Peng Yue was intending to rebel against him, So he exiled Peng the remote Sichuan province.
Along the way, Peng Yue encountered Empress Lü Zhi, who wanted to have him killed. He pleaded with her to spare his life and let him return home to Changyi, and the empress pretended to agree. Peng Yue was brought back to Luoyang where he was subsequently executed. Empress Lü ordered Peng Yue's corpse to be minced into pieces and had Peng's clan put to death as well.
