Since he became the most powerful man in China, President Xi Jinping has drawn worldwide attention. He called for continued market economic reform, and set in motion a nationwide campaign against corruption, which many argue is a critical move to realize the Chinese Dream, a new catch phrase referring to prosperity and happiness of the Chinese people.

A recent article in the Chinese magazine Southern Metropolis Weekly reveals that in his youth, Xi Jinping watched many American films, and also, that he was a big fan of Taiwanese singer Teresa Teng, which may help us get some insight into his personal taste.

Some of the American movies the president has enjoyed:

The Deer Hunter (1978)

Genre: war film

Director: Michael Cimino

The Deer Hunter is a war drama about a trio of Russian American steelworkers and their service in Vietnam. It is a powerful and compelling examination of the Vietnam War and its effects on the lives of ordinary American people.
