A craftsman makes brushes with a bone comb. (Xinhua/Zhou Mi) |
Sheng Songbai, owner of Sheng’s Brush Store in Jingde Town in central China’s Jiangxi province, inherited the handicraft of making brushes for pottery from his grandfather and has passed it on to his daughter and granddaughter. The process of making a brush for pottery is time-consuming and has low economic benefits, so few people are willing to learn the craft and the number of traditional brush stores in Jingde Town is also declining. The Sheng’s brush still persists in carrying on this traditional handicraft.
