This year marks the 50th anniversary of Sino-France diplomatic ties. Delegation of the Temple of Heaven is set to participate in the Sino-France cultural exchange to be held from May 12 to 21, 2014 at the invitation of the Chateau du Rivau.
The event is one of the 300 cultural exchanges of the French government. “Tour of Divine Music of the Temple of Heaven-Ancient Chinese Imperial Court Concert” is a major program of the cultural exchange.
According to Wang Ling, director of the Yayue center of the Divine Music Office, the concert includes 20 performers and 16 traditional Chinese musical instruments, including chimes and stone-chimes.
The Yayue center of the Divine Office has selected 10 pieces of music that best represent the ritual music and imperial court music of the Qing Dynasty. The music is restored based on historical material and research.
The orchestra will also perform French music with traditional Chinese musical instruments.
This is the first time for the divine music of the Temple of Heaven to go abroad. The cultural exchange is an important platform to exhibit traditional Chinese culture.
