Sharp Island
Tombolo-tastic
Not far from Sai Kung, the 2.5km-long Sharp Island is known for being strewn with rocks that are endearingly shaped like tasty-looking pineapple buns.
The principle attractions of Sharp Island are its two distinct beaches – Hap Mun Bay and Kiu Tsui Beach. You can take a boat to the beach of your choice from Sai Kung. There is a path over the island, but it is overgrown; we recommend using a map if you try to locate it. (See bit.ly/sharpislandtrail.)
Hap Mun Bay is a popular and clean beach. Kiu Tsui beach isn't as good, but when the tide is low you can walk, Moses-like, over a tombolo connecting the beach itself to the nearby island of Kiu Tau. Just make sure you come back before the tide comes in.
Don't miss Walking (kind of) through the ocean.
Get there Boats leave for Sharp Island from Sai Kung Public Ferry Pier every 30 minutes until 5.30pm. The 15-minute ride costs around 30HKD return (subject to demand). Check tidal information before your trip at weather.gov.hk, and find out more about Sharp Island at bit.ly/sharpisland
