Dagaoxuan Dian—The Deserted Palace of Emperor Jiajing

Dagaoxuan Dian was built in 1542, during the period of Emperor Jiajing (1507–1567) in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). In the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), Dagaoxuan Dian continued be the royal Taoist temple. After 1949, it was occupied by military unit.

Dagaoxuan Dian, with a history of 470 years, is a royal architectural site left unused for nearly a century. The colored paintings, doors and windows have maintained the same since the latest restoration in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It retains the dignity and imperial supremacy of ancient China, especially the caisson ceiling decorated with a large, coiled dragon. Its magnificence represents the superiority of the hall.
