Root carving exhibition kicks off in Beijing

A root-carving exhibition is being held in Yanqing county,Beijing, on Aug 27, 2014. More than 130 pieces are in the exhibition, each of which is made using scraps of tree roots as main materials. Root-carving originated in the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-24 AD) and has been popular in Yanqing county since its first exhibition there in 1960. [Photo by Yu Yao/chinadaily.com.cn]
