Li Zhixiang, the Director of the Performance Department, National Grand Theater, said that the theater held several festivals with different musical genres as their themes, such as orchestra, opera, chamber music, etc. And the August Chorus Festival is designed to focus on vocal music. In this way, the Theater can offer its audience a multi-dimensional space for art. Although the festivals last only about a week, we endeavored to ensure the quality of the performances. This year, we invited six fabulous choruses from America, Finland, England and China. We hope to excel from the last year, and debut all the excellent choruses from all over the world in a few years.
Wu Lingfen, a famous Chinese cantor said that in China, chorus is restricted to an ordinary level, but chorus is actually a profound art form like orchestra. Currently, such shows are scarce in Beijing. So the August Chorus Festival will help to broaden Chinese audience’s knowledge, expose them to the top-notch chorus show, and let them get to understand the charm and inner beauty of the choral singing.
The marketing department of the China National Grand Theater says the admission fee will remain acceptable to the ordinary audience. The prices are 200 yuan, 180 yuan and 160 yuan, which means people could attend the best chorus concert with the least expense.
