"As one important component of the Chinese multi-ethnic cultures, these Tibetan artworks will show how contemporary artists inherit the essence of traditional Tibetan paintings and combine their works with modern arts outside Tibet," said Li Xiaoke, an artist and organizer of the exhibition.

Tibet has a long history of painting. The traditional painting forms, like religious paintings, religious murals and Tang-ka, have continued for thousands of years. However, the Tibetan society has undergone enormous changes in past 60 years. Therefore, new painting art forms came into being after the libration, especially in past 20 years. Contemporary painting can be said to have formed a new painting style in Tibet. Contemporary art is not copied and doesn’t blindly follow samples that already exist, rather it emphasizes the absorption of their own beliefs. The artists always insist on demonstrating the nature and religious aspects in Tibet. On the other hand, they also consider the multinational culture and world culture.
