"This is an autobiography of Che Guevara's life," Camilo Guevara said. "In this photo collection, you will be able to see the life experience in different stages, from his early travels around Latin America as a young man, his revolutionary life in Cuba, to his days as a minister of industry."
"Chinese people will be able see what Che Guevara sees through his lens, his way of expression, his feelings, his thoughts," he said. "Moreover, this is also a history of Cuba, not to say these work are (not just) good in themselves."
Camilo Guevara was only five when his father was executed in the jungle of Bolivia and thus had a hazy impression of Che Guevara as a father. But he believes the profound impact Che Guevara has had on Cubans.
"He is a revolutionist. He was determined to bring changes to the world, and his belief is also my belief," said Camilo Guevara.
Time Magazine once named Che Guevara as one of 100 most influential people of 20th century, while the Guerrillero Heroico made by Cuban photographer Alberto Korda has been widely produced onto books, comics and movies. The image is a fashion statement, seen on shirts and pants all over the world.
In Beijing you can spot young people wearing clothing plastered with Guevara images on the streets of Sanlitun and Nanluoguxiang. But few people know who he was. Perhaps this is why Camilo Guevara regards the over-commercialization of Che Guevara as "spoiling him."
"There are many people making money from this, without understanding Che Guevara's feelings, or his thoughts. This is dishonest and really embarrassing," said Camilo Guevara. "It is (only) acceptable if these people are making money for a greater cause, for example, helping the community."
"I believe his images should be sold along with his history, otherwise they are empty and meaningless," he said. "I hope people can place him in their hearts, rather than just wearing him on their body."
