Co-sponsored by the Chinese Artists Association and the Carter Center, a contemporary Chinese painting exhibition to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-US diplomatic relations opened July 17, 2014 at the Carter Center.
The exhibition displays more than 30 Chinese brush drawings from 31 artists, including Liu Dawei, Wu Changjiang and Du Ziling, Presided over by the Carter Center President John B. Hardman, the opening ceremony was attended by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, Chinese Consul General in Houston Li Qiangmin, and other representatives.
Located in Atlanta, the capital city of Georgia, US, The Carter Center is a nonprofit organization established by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and former first lady Rosalynn Carter in 1982. Former President Carter and Vice Premier Deng Xiaoping officially normalized Sino-US relations in 1979, which was an event of strategic significance in the second half of the 20th century. Thus, this exhibition took place during the anniversary at the Carter Center, evoking memories of their history together.
Carter addressed the opening, saying cultural exchanges between the two countries have laid a strong foundation for development of their bilateral relationship and only through frequent contact and understanding can they truly enhance friendship between two countries.
Consul General in Houston, Li Jiangmin spoke highly of the exhibition. Being held at Presidential Center during the 35th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-US diplomatic relations, it has a significant and far-reaching impact. He hopes to have more cultural activities between the two countries to promote the development of Sino-US relations.
Chinese Artists Association regards the exhibition as an opportunity to expand exchanges with American culture fields, in order to enhance the breadth and depth of the Sino-US exchanges between the two countries.
