MORE than 20 artists from Germany and China are staging a cartoon exhibition based on folk stories and classic fairy tales of the two countries.

A program of the ongoing Shanghai Citizens Art Festival, the exhibition will run until September 2 at the Shanghai Mass Art Center. The cartoonists are showcasing their representative works and original manuscripts.

Chinese artist Leng Leng impresses visitors with several works that combine the shape of butterflies and human faces. German illustrator Andre Breinbauer brings a series of works titled “Beauty” to portray the delicate and beautiful connection between humans and wild animals.

Sisters Kirsten Geisser and Ines Geisser work together on animation films and comics. They present their comic stories with a distinctive style of audio-visual storytelling. Some of their comics are accompanied by mix tapes or use popular songs or lyrics. During the exhibition, visitors can talk with the artists to learn about their inspiration, passion and the humor and artistry of their works.

On August 31, an animation video screening will be held featuring creative short cartoon sequences.
