The Chinese Character itinerant exhibition, hosted by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), National Museum of Chinese Writing and Sri Lanka-China Society, opened in Colombo, Sri Lanka on Dec 4.
The exhibition, featuring the developmental history of Chinese characters, gave a comprehensive display of the origin and evolution of Chinese characters by showing pictures, calligraphy works, and rubbing (a traditional Chinese skill of replicating a tablet inscription by placing a piece of Chinese art paper over it and then rubbing the paper with Chinese ink) works. Also, Chinese calligraphers presented on-site calligraphic creations and elaborated on the auspicious implications behind these characters, which was well received by the audience.
