China's Ministry of Culture has announced that various events will be held to celebrate the country's fourth Cultural Heritage Day, which falls on June 13th.

Deputy Culture Minister, Zhou Heping, said that inheritors are very important in light of the protection of intangible cultural heritage.

"Inheritors are of vital importance as they are the ones who pass on living heritages. We have made public about 800 inheritors of state-level intangible cultural heritages. The ministry of culture will annouce more than 700 other inheritors later on." The 2nd International Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival in Chengdu is also an important component of the cultural celebrations.

With the capital of the quake-affected Sichuan province hosting the festival, Zhou Heping says, China is now paying even more attention to the cultural preservation of the Qiang people who survived the massive earthquake.

"We are making efforts to collect and compile related materials to make a systematic recording of their unique culture. At the same time, we are working to preserve the intangible cultural heritage of Qiang people through new technology so as to expand the content of an online Qiang museum and establish a database."

A forum focused on Disaster and Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection will also kick off during the festival with more than 30 countries' ambassadors to UNESCO taking part.
