Portugal's third international forum on Sinology opened here last Thursday at the auditorium of Macao Scientific and Cultural Center.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the forum with the theme of "China and the Olympics," Chinese Ambassador Gao Kexiang expounded the value of the 2008 Beijing Olympics to the host country.
Gao also outlined the promises of the Chinese government to host a successful Olympic games and spoke of the ardor of the Chinese people to welcome the event.
The ambassador hoped the forum could become a platform for the Chinese and European peoples along with the rest of the world to deepen mutual understanding.
An official from the Portuguese Foreign Ministry spoke of the friendly and peaceful relations between China and Portugal, adding that Portugal should strengthen cooperation in economy, politics and culture with China and further promote bilateral exchanges.
Tens of experts, politicians and scholars from Portugal, China, Britain, France and Switzerland attended the ceremony and were to discuss such topics as the Olympics' influence on a country's economy, politics and society during the 10-day event.
