Chinese art troupe in Mali hails success in cultural exchange

Both Malian people and Chinese diplomats hail the recent visit by a Chinese art troupe a success in promoting cultural exchanges between the two friendly countries.

The performance has become a hit in the national press. "Fantastic, exceptional, extraordinary, amazing" are some of the adjectives being used by the Malian newspapers.

"I have achieved one of my greatest dreams: physically seeing with my own eyes the Chinese demonstrating the martial arts technique," a young boy from a karate school in the Malian capital told Xinhua.

Chinese Ambassador in Mali Zhang Guoqing said the visit by the Chinese art troupe was part of a plan to make Chinese culture better known in Mali, "especially among children and the youths to unite both peoples."

According to Yu Zou, an official in charge of communication at the Chinese Embassy in Mali, these Chinese artists, specialized in martial arts, acrobatics, singing and instrumental music, were brought together to meet the Africa need for knowing more about Chinese culture.

The 22-member troupe from China made their spectacular presentations at the Cultural Palace and the Bamako International Conference Center on Oct. 5-10, under a program "Focus on Chinese Culture".

The Chinese artists also visited humanitarian homes like the Children village SOS of Sanankoroba, about 30 km from the capital Bamako.

The children are not the only ones fascinated by the prowess of these acrobats. "It was fascinating. We could not believe that they did all these movements without any magic," said a staff at one of the national youth centers in the country.

"It's only magicians who know how to do all that with their bodies," one of his colleagues added.
