Development of Shanghai Art Fair

Shanghai Art Fair was established in 1997 when the public knew little about artwork appreciation or collection. The fair began as an exhibition instead of a transaction platform.

Today, the Shanghai Art Fair has become an internationalized, market-oriented, competitive event. It has connected Shanghai with the outside world, bridged the masses and art, and set an example for other art fairs in China.

Theme of Shanghai Art Fair: “Art Is Wealth”

The theme of the 2011 Shanghai Art Fair was “Art is wealth”. It highlighted four concepts of artwork consumption — “collection and transmission”, “investment and financial management”, “room beautification” and “gift giving” -- aiming to enthusiasm from the public for artwork its collection.

Shanghai Art Fair attracted a large audience

“Because of the present economic situation, much capital has been invested in the artwork market…our expectation and target are: transactions, transactions, transactions,” said Gu Zhihua, Office Director of The Organizing Committee of Shanghai Art Fair.
