Going-on in China: Titanic, the Unsinkable

The craze brought healthy benefits to the cinemas, but also activated a new computer virus. About 40,000 Chinese computers were installed with various malware while the computer users sought to download 3D Titanic HD BT seeds, a Trojan in disguise, said Chinanews.com.

Evocative of the past innocent days, the film becomes a matter of interest on China’s Weibo as the users are avid for praises and take on a nostalgic sentiment, while grumping about the abridgment of the scene in which Rose asked Jack to sketch her nude wearing the Heart of the Ocean. The episode remained intact in the 1997 version in the Chinese mainland.

User love_a3 wrote: “Titanic was released in the Chinese mainland in 1998 when I was preparing for the senior school entrance examination. Once at midday, I watched the complete MV of the theme song and got late for the class. The poster was really popular with the public.”

User 密斯花生酱 wrote: "Even the middle-aged women are discussing what was like when they watched Titanic in 1997."

User 李满秀 wrote: "A classmate made a presentation about Titanic this afternoon in the English class and impressed me a lot. The past 15 years does not erode the classic aroma of the film, though great changes have been made in the world. The English teacher asked us why we still needed a 3D version. It is about more than business, I think; it is a valuable memory and a spiritual sustenance for many people. In today’s china, in particular, we are in urgent need of pure and sincere things to cleanse our inner world."
