On March 12 the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China and the Turkish embassy in China jointly held a press conference to announce the official start of “2013 Turkish Cultural Year in China”. Ministry of Culture official Hou XiangHua and Turkish ambassador to China Murat Salim Esenli attended the event.
Hou said the “2012 Chinese Cultural Year in Turkey” event held in Turkey last year was a success. “2013 Turkish Cultural Year in China”, a year-long event to celebrate Sino-Turkish ties, is scheduled to kick off in Beijing in March. Esenli said at the press conference that Turkey would make every effort to showcase its history, art, culture, and tourism to Chinese people during the event.
Opening ceremonies for the event will be held on March 21 in Beijing and March 25 in Shanghai respectively. Turkish artists will put on performances in Chinese cities as part of the event.
In 2010, China and Turkey issued a joint statement on the establishment and development of their strategic partnership, and drew up the plan to organize the Chinese Culture Year in Turkey in 2012 and the Turkish Culture Year in China this year.
“Holding such events is part of an agreement reached by both sides and has served to promote cultural ties and strengthen relations,” Hou said.
