Moon dance, Pingtang, Guizhou

Pingtang county, Guizhou province is a beautiful area with strong flavors from the Miao people. For them, the moon symbolizes happy love in their folk legends. During the night of the Mid-Autumn Day, young Miao people sing and dance under the moon, which is vividly called "moon dance" (Tiao Yue in Chinese). During the dance, unmarried people will look for their prospective partner. The dance will last about one hour every time it is performed between three to seven days. Other competitions such as horse racing and archery are also held.
