Jointly hosted by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Culture and the Ulan Bator Chinese culture center, the China Shaanxi Province Folk Art Exhibition recently concluded at the Ulan Bator Chinese Culture Center on January 17, 2014.

More than 150 people attended the opening ceremony including Mo Tumenjirikala, the Mongolian vice minister of culture and tourism along with the Mongolian Chinese embassy in chargé d'affaires ad interim Yang Qingdong.

Mo Tumenjirikala gave a speech and congratulated the opening of the exhibition stating that there is a broad prospect in other fields of cooperation between the two governments and local provinces in culture and tourism. He also said, “Shaanxi folk art not only belongs to China, but also to the world. Mongolia should learn from Shaanxi province about how to protect and inherit intangible cultural.” He also felt that Mongolia and China will continue to contribute to the protection and inheritance of common human cultural heritages.

At the opening ceremony, Shaanxi province cultural department researcher Di Rong’an said “Happy Spring Festival—Shaanxi folk art exhibition” contributes to the communication with Mongolia, and promotes the relationship between China Shaanxi province and Mongolia, to enhance mutual understanding between China and the Mongolian people.

The exhibition featured paper cutting, shadow plays, Fengxiang clay sculptures, Shaanxi farmer painting, Fengxiang woodcut New Year picture, puppetry and many other cultural art items. Everything on display reflected the variety behind Shaanxi’s intangible cultural heritage folk art. Overall, the work has strong visual elements. The opening ceremony was attended by many people and sparked great interest in folk art from Shaanxi province.
