Seminar to promote cultural exchanges between young people from China and African-Union was organized by Tianjin University of Technology and Education and sponsored by the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Chinese Ministry of Culture on Sept 22. The seminar was held in line with the suggestion put forward by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang at the Fifth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. Song Yangqun, director of African Affairs at the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Chinese Ministry of Culture, and Liu Xin, president of the university, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
Song Yanqun said at the ceremony that China’s Ministry of Culture values the cultural exchanges between China and Africa. This seminar is one of the key projects of “2014 African Cultural Focus”. Youth are the future of the country. Strengthening communication between youth in both countries will have far-reaching effects on friendship between the two peoples.
Liu Xin, president of the university, gave a brief introduction of their training courses for African students and promised to provide better courses, service and a broader platform for students to communicate. She wished that African students could learn and experience more about Chinese culture and development of Tianjin.
The head of the delegation of African youth thanked China’s Ministry of Culture for the cultural exchange. She said the Chinese Premier Li Keqian’s speech at the headquarters of African-Union aroused strong response and confirmed the belief that both countries have a brighter future. She wished that the seminar could be held frequently and more African young people could come here to broaden their horizon and promote friendship with China.
The seminar, which includes 19 students from the Republic of Ethiopia, the Republic of Zimbabwe, Kenya, Rwanda and Cote d'Ivoire, will run for two weeks. It focuses on China’s history, exchanges between China and Africa, youth employment and career development and China’s education.
