The 12th Splendor of China Trade and Culture Expo hosted by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, opened in Honolulu on Nov 1.
Various activities were held during the expo, including a photo exhibition of dark tea history, a Xinhua photo gallery, Wild China, and cultural exhibitions and performance held by overseas Chinese groups and corporations. These activities attracted thousands of local residents and tourists from all over the world.
The Xinhua photo gallery, Wild China, displayed more than 60 photos of Chinese scenery and Chinese folk customs, presenting Chinese tourism from the perspective of an ecological civilization. The visitors said that they got to see ancient China as well as modern China in these pictures, which impressed them a lot and inspired them to visit China one day.
During the two-days of activities, visitors had a chance to take part in different traditional cultural shows, such as martial arts, paper-cutting, calligraphy, embroidery, acupuncture, and dragon-lion dance. Chengdu, Honolulu’s sister city, presented facing-changing skills in Sichuan Opera and put on cultural shows about Sichuan black tea.
Xu Binghsheng, president of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, said in an interview that, “Splendor of China has witnessed increasingly growing influence with more than 150 overseas groups and corporations attending the expo this year. It is a great opportunity for the local residents to know more about Chinese culture and a red-letter day for Hawaiian Chinese to celebrate.”
The mayor of Honolulu mentioned that the first group of Chinese immigrants to Hawaii impressed the local people by their diligence and intelligence. He also said that the “Chinese complex” was an important tie to deepen Chinese and Hawaiian friendship and promote trading between the two sides.
