Taiwan is lifting its cap on big-screen productions from the Chinese mainland.
The island amended its quota of 10 Chinese mainland films per year, which was put in place for fear that the island's local film industry would struggle to compete against big budget mainland titles.
The new policy also allows productions from the mainland that garnered recognition or awards from, such as the Golden Bear winner from this year's Berlin International Film Festival, "Black Coal, Thin Ice."
There have also been talks circulating for some time to lift the quota on mainland titles that may not necessarily be award-winners, up to 15 movies per year.
The Chinese mainland does not issue a cap on the number of movies it screens that are made in Taiwan.
