The 2014 Beijing International Film Music Festival (BJIFMF) made its debut in Beijing on the evening of Dec 4. It is the first international film music festival in China. At the opening ceremony, more than 15 prominent soundtracks from classic films like Star Wars, Schindler’s List and Titanic were presented to the audience.

BJIFMF will run for five days and features four sections, including a Master Class, Film Music Concert, Film Music Composition & Education and Young Composer Development Plan.

At the session Film Music Composition & Education, Professor Garry Schyman and Dan Carlin from the United States and Chinese film music composers Li Haiying and Wang Liguang will discuss composing film music, education and research.

"An impressive film song will make a film classic. On hearing the music, people will remember the scene of the film," said Li Guyi, a Chinese famous singer. She hoped more attention would be put on film music composition..

Guo Wenjing, president of the art committee of the BJIFMF, said he hoped more Chinese composers could attend the Chinese film music composition. There is a long way to go in the developing film music industry. The festival is a starting point.
