The PROC Chess Association was originally affiliated to the Chinese Xiangqi Association and became an independent organization in 1979. Headquartered in Beijing, it is a member of the All-China Sports Federation. In 1975, the World Chess Federation formally accepted the PROC Chess Association as a member.
Tasks of the PROC Chess Association are:
* to increase the popularity of and public participation in chess;
* to train players, coaches and judges;
* to conduct international exchanges and organize international games;
* to select and recommend players and coaches for the national team;
* to organize the training of national teams and their participation in international games;
* to organize national games;
* to work out the development plan, management rules, competition systems, national competition plans and regulations;
* to organize research programs.
There are the National Committee, the Standing Committee, the Secretariat, the Technical Committee, the Judges Committee, the Press Committee, the Funding Committee and the Youngsters' Committee under the association.
