The Kaifeng City Museum, located at Kaifeng City of Henan Province and founded in March 1962, is a local historical and art museum of China. It used to be the Kaifeng City Exhibition Hall.
The Museum has a collection of over 20,000 items, of which 23 items belong to Class One Collection. Most of the 1,000 items of stone carving are the epitaphs from the Northern Wei (386-534) to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). TheEpitaph of Yuan Huaifrom the Northern Wei has a touch ofLishu(official script, an ancient style of calligraphy current in the Han Dynasty) with graceful handwriting; theEpitaph of Quan Nanshengfrom the Song Dynasty is the handwriting of Ouyang Tong, one of the few original handwritings left by Ouyang Tong; and theEpitaph of Wang Shanggongwas written by Sima Guang.
The basic exhibition of the Museum is the Exhibition of the Relics from Song Dynasty. The Dongjing (east capital) Map of Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127) on display in the Kaifeng Fu (prefecture) of Dongjing, the achievements of scientific research of the Museum, has been adopted byGeneral History of China.
The Song City Archeological Team of the Museum has had a survey of the outer city, the inner city and the imperial city of Dongjing of the Northern Song Dynasty and had a basic understanding of the outline of the outer city and the imperial city. The Museum has also compiledAncient Capital of Kaifeng,Selected Materials of Kaifeng Battle,the Famous Historical Site of KaifengandEight Sceneries of Bianjing and Others.
