The Song and Dance Ensemble of Tibet Autonomous Region was founded in July 1958. Its previous leaders in the past were Zhang Keyu, Sun Peisheng and Luo Bu. Currently is Ezhu Duoji.
The Ensemble concentrates its performances mainly on Tibetan music and dances. Their representative works include dances: The Night of Harvest, Shepherdess, Spring in Xiaerba, Yang Jinma, Zhaxi Luga and Ali Xuan, songs: Lhasa Girl, Spring Breeze in Heart, My Sweetheart, I Love My Gold Hometown, Tibet of the Motherland; Tibetan Symphonic Suite: Religious Ceremony in the Snow Land; dance with song accompaniment: Snow Land in Sunshine; opera: Affections for the Plateau; traditional royal court dance Kaer; street dance Lang Ma; folk performance: Zhuo, Guo Zhuo, Jia xie, Dui Xie and etc.
The Ensemble has participated in several international art festivals and got great success. They have paid performing visits to United States, Britain, Germany, France, Canada, Switzerland, Australia, Italy, Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Austria, Greece, Singapore, Nepal as well as Hong Kong and Macao regions, where the troupe's distinctive artistic charm was highly appreciated.
The Ensemble now has a group of famous artists including well-known singer Caidan Zhuoma, conductor Ezhu Ciren, composer Gesang Daji, Ge Lai, dance designer Basang Ciren, singers Dexi Meiduo, Dan Zeng, Dunzhu Cireng, dancer Bai, and a number of creative art designers.
