The Shaanxi Opera (Qinqiang) Troupe was set up in October 1958, based on the Jueming Society and Gengchen Club. Since its founding the Troupe has presented original works of The Human world in Heaven, Xiji Beach, All in Couples, The Dawn over Liupan Mountain, In Front of the Law, The Bay of Mother and Son's Wife, The Beggar Conferred on by Emperor, Spirit of a Martyr from Yuhai Sea, altogether more than fifty plays of Qin Opera. Meihu Opera and Xia Opera on various scale in addition, more than fifty traditional plays have been collected and adapted. Among them, Meihu Opera The Baby of Mother and Son's Wife has won Prize of New Program and Prize of Performance at the Invitational Performance of National Contemporary theme of Traditional Opera in Yangzhou, 1991. Xia Opera The Beggar Conferred on by Emperor own six prizes at the National Theatrical Festival Excellent Program in Zi Buo in 1992, followed by the invitational performance of National Traditional Operas, Comedies and Comic Skits in Lan Zhou in the same year with two prizes, and in 1993, Spirit of a Martyr from Yuhai Sea has won four prizes at the national exchange of local opera in Cheng Du.

The leading artists of the Troupe are Wang Zhijie, Ma Guifen, Wang Zemin, Si Cunrei and Xu Jiuru.
