The predecessor of Inner Mongolia Ethnic Opera Troupe was Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Nationalities Experimental Troupe, which was founded in 1957. The Troupe changed to present name in 1979.
More than 150 operas and modern dramas have ever since been created and performed. The main works are: the modern drama, "Gadameilin", "Golden Eagle", "Battzsanwedding", the operas "Danabala, The Beacon fire of the grasslands", "The Dawn over the Grasslands, the Mongolian operas, "Lima", "Uyunqiqige", "Mandu Haishi Qin". These theatrical pieces have strong ethnic characteristics and the amorous feelings of the grassland sand won the excellent creating and performing prizes in performance competitions both in and out of the Region, won the theatrical creating prize of "Sarena" Award issued by the Autonomous Region, and won a silver "Peacock Cup for Nationwide Ethnic Minority Creative Subjects.
The Troupe has trained a large number of outstanding and excellent artistic talents, such as famous composer Meiliqige, performing artists Edmsen, Chaolu, Yirohu and stage art and costume designer Tana. Among them, Ningcaiwho acted as the hero in the modern opera "Hello to the Head of the Banner" won the Chinese Opera Plum Blossom Second Wenhua Performing Award issued by the Ministry of Culture; Deli gel who acted as the mountain god in the teleplay "The Ruins on the other side of the mountain, won the nominate of the best hero of the Golden Panda in Sichuan International Television Festival; Owing to the artistic performing in the film "Sorrowful Bruck", Tumen, Bayinerele won the collective performing prize in the Sixth Chinese Film Golden Rooster Award; Chaolu, Qiqige and Eldemuda seperately won the first and second prizes of the vocal musical contests at national and regional levels.
