Nanjing is the capital of Jiangsu province in Eastern China. It was called Jianye and was the capital of the Wu Kingdom (222-280) during the Three Kingdoms Period. During the period of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420) and Song, Qi, Liang and Chen dynasties (420-589), Nanjing, called Jiankang, was the international hub of East Asia and one of the largest cities in the world. After the 1911 Revolution, Dr. Sun Yat-sen took office as the provisional president of the Republic of China and set up national government in Nanjing. Nanjing has long been a national center of education, research, transport network and tourism.
