The exhibition Tree: Xu Jiacun’s Water-ink Art Exhibition kicked off at the Chinese Cultural Center in Seoul, South Korea on Aug 22. The exhibition will run through Sept 5, 2014.

The exhibition shows Xu’s representative art works and script drafts from the last four years, extending his tree series works and creation stories. Chinese painter Xu Jiacun describes his spiritual state and contemporary life by combining Chinese traditional ink and paper with western artistic ideas and methods in his creation. From his works visitors could also learn about the development of Chinese water-ink art.

Shi Ruilin, cultural counselor of Chinese embassy in South Korea, said at the opening ceremony there are many common aspects in South Korea and Chinese cultures. Artists could find many similarities in mutual languages and cultural symbols, like the ink and rice paper used at the exhibition.

Chinese President Xi Jinping conducted a historic State visit to South Korea in July and he and President Park Geun-hye reached a consensus in strengthening cultural communications between China and South Korea.
