The 2014 Chinese Library Annual Conference, from Oct 10-12, is sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and co-organized by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture, the Dongcheng Government, the China Society for the Library of Science, the National Library of China and the Development of Centre of State Public Culture. This year’s conference, themed “Power of Librarians: Reform, Development, Progress”, is comprised of work meetings, academic meetings and exposition, showcasing the achievements of librarianship and promoting exchanges in the industry. Cai Wu, Minister of the Chinese Ministry of Culture, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. More than 200 participants involved in the library industry, or associated with the industry at various levels nationwide, attended the conference.

The annual conference is the forth session to be held by the Ministry of Culture and highlights three sections with distinct themes.

1. The event shows innovative achievements of ancient books protection and promotes Chinese culture

The highlight is to show Chinese traditional culture through every single part of the annual conference. In the working section, the Ministry of Culture will organize experts and scholars to share their experience and views about ancient books protection. In the exposition section, a huge cube full of QR code is on display. Visitors can scan the QR code and link to the webpage introducing ancient books and related information. The exhibition also presents videos with stories of national treasures, repaired ancient books, rubbings, inscriptions and other interactive activities. In the academic part, the China Society for the Library of Science, Chinese Ancient Books Protection Centre and 31 provincial protection centers are jointly launching an event to protect ancient books. And famous scholars Wang Meng and Xu Jialu and representatives from the library industry have been invited to attend the traditional culture forum.
