  XinjiangArts Research Institute

An arts research institution directly under the provincial Cultural Department, the Xinjiang Arts Research Institute was established in 1985, and has since completed many important projects.

The projects include the compilation of: Records of China's Traditional Opera (Xinjiang Volume), Anthology of China's Traditional Opera Music (Xinjiang Volume), Anthology of China's Folk and Traditional Instrumental Music (Xinjiang Volume), Anthology of China's Folk and Traditional Dance (Xinjiang Volume), China's Folk Songs Anthology (Xinjiang Volume), Records of China'sQuyiArts (Xinjiang Volume), and Anthology of China's Quyi Arts (Xinjiang Volume).

It has also completed such major state-level academic projects as: The Complete Anthology of China's Music and Cultural Relics (Xinjiang Volume), and Research of Dolan Muqam; and is carrying out ongoing work with Records of China's Dance (Xinjiang Volume), History of China's Opera (Xinjiang Volume), and History of Uygur Music. It has also produced many monographs and theses.

With a strong academic background and large archive of Xinjiang's arts resources, including sound, visuals, music scores, literature, and various objects, the Institute is also engaged in many aspects of cultural undertakings: It has co-designed many major variety shows for Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, winning provincial and national awards; it is a partner of the provincial arts education scheme and has contributed to the training of many talented artists; and it is also an active participant in international cultural exchanges.

The main future objectives of the Institute are: to further strengthen fundamental and theoretical research as well as strategic researches for the sustainable development of Xinjiang's culture; to rescue, protect, document, and study the fine traditions of all ethnic cultures in Xinjiang; to protect arts resources archives and step up efforts in information technology and database construction; and to expand and deepen international cultural exchanges.
