Xinjiang Arts Institute
Xinjiang Arts Institute is the only comprehensive arts college in Northwest China, and is noted for its high level of professionalism and special local and ethnic emphasis.
The Institute has departments for music, graphic design, dance, motion picture, theater, arts education, and art and cultural management. Its programs are multilevel, including undergraduate programs forhigher education, higher-levelvocational education, vocational-to-college education, adult vocational training, and vocational secondary school (subsidiary school), plus a Further Education and Training Center for Art Teachers across Xinjiang. The departments of music and fine arts have been enlisted as key areas of development in the "Tenth Five-Year Program" of Xinjiang.
The institute now has altogether 19 undergraduate majors, subdivided into 32 specific fields: 4 majors for higher-level vocational training, 5 majors for adult vocational training, 9 majors for vocational-to-college education, and 5 majors for vocational secondary school (attached school); there are also 45 teaching internship programs. Organizations such as symphony orchestras, folk music orchestras, choruses, dance teams, and accordion orchestras are also set up on campus.
The Institute believes its main priority is to foster highly qualified professionals for the ethnic arts. To accomplish this, it has been focusing on the following orientations: vocal and instrumental music from Muqam under the major of Musical Performance; folk arts under the major of Graphic Design; an acting major in Uygur-language Film and Television; Uygur-language broadcasting and program hosting; and an education of folk and ethnic dance through the Dance major. By developing these areas, the Institute aims to tap into the diversity of Xinjiang's cultural resources, explore more ways to fully develop the regional artistic potential, and build a comprehensive framework for higher education in ethnic arts and culture for Xinjiang.
