China's policy of reform and opening, implemented in 1978, catapulted this ancient civilization onto the fast track of modern development and economic growth. As the new policy brought about China's economic and social development, the Chinese people went from barely being able to feed and clothe themselves to enjoying a moderately prosperous standard of living.
